Carlos Ghosn

Carlos Ghosn is a Brazilian entrepreneur of Lebanese origin, former CEO of the Renault and Nissan automotive groups. He was president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Renault from 2005 to 2019, president and CEO of Nissan from 2017 to 2018, chairman of the board of directors of Mitsubishi Motors Group from 2016 to 2018, chairman of the board of directors of the Russian automaker AvtoVAZ. He was also CEO of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, which in 2017 reached first place in the world among car manufacturers, ahead of Volkswagen AG, Toyota and General Motors.

In November 2018, he was arrested by Japanese justice on suspicion of hiding income in Nissan's financial publications. The following month he was indicted for using company funds for personal purposes. Placed under house arrest in Tokyo after being in prison for almost six months, he managed to clandestinely leave Japan in the last days of December 2019, to reach Lebanon, taking advantage of the fact that there is no extradition agreement between the two countries and that he has a Lebanese passport. He is therefore considered an international fugitive.
