Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts or EA is an American company active in the video game sector. Founded on May 28, 1982 by Trip Hawkins, it is headquartered in Redwood City in San Mateo County, California. It develops, publishes and distributes video games. EA acquired the British Codemasters in 2021; the operation marks a strengthening on the racing front where the English developer holds the Formula 1 and WRC licenses.

Founded in 1982 by Trip Hawkins after he left Apple Computer, in 2011 it launched Origin on the market, a platform for the digital distribution of its PC titles, competing with Valve's Steam platform: this caused tension between parts, with consequences on the stock of titles available on the latter platform. In fact, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, Need for Speed: The Run, The Sims 3, Simcity and Mass Effect 3 are bound to Origin, therefore resulting in their absence on Steam.
