Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron is a politician, President of the French Republic since 14 May 2017. He also held the position of Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital from 2014 to 2016, in the second Valls government. After being a member of the Socialist Party from 2006 to 2009, Macron contested elections under the banner of a centrist political movement he founded in April 2016, La République En Marche. He won the elections on May 7 the following year with 66.1% of the votes in the second round.

At 39, Macron became the youngest president of France in history and appointed Édouard Philippe as Prime Minister. Macron won the election again in 2022 with 58.5% of the vote in a run-off with Marine Le Pen. In the legislative elections of June 2022, Macron's party lost the absolute majority obtained five years earlier, while maintaining the relative majority of the National Assembly. The Government, led by Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne from 2022 to 2024 and by Prime Minister Gabriel Attal from 2024, have therefore become minority executives.
